||The basis for the development of fish-based assessment
methods was a large database comprising datasets on existing sampling
data as well as abiotic and environmental information from 12 different
countries (Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Greece, Lithuania, Poland,
Portugal, Spain, The Netherlands, Sweden, United Kingdom).
The central database FIDES (FIsh Database of European Streams) was
established as a relational database on MS-Access. It consisted of
7 main tables (reporter, site, fishing occasion, catch, length/length
class, historical) and 3 help tables (ecoregions, country, taxa and
guilds). Moreover, metrics calculated for each fishing occasion were
provided as a separate table.
FIDES contained information about 150 freshwater fish species, 17
ecoregions, 40 main river regions, 2 651 rivers, and 8 228 sites.
Detailed information on the structure and contents of FIDES can be
found in the FIDES manual.
